Sprint Galaxy S5 Receiving A Little CyanogenMod Love

It looks like CyanogenMod’s nightly cycle will bring about nightlies for a new device, Sprint’s variant of the Galaxy S5. CyanogenMod announced this on their Google+ page like they usually do for new devices, they also said that more Galaxy S5 variants will follow suit.

This means that tonight at some point CyanogenMod will push out CyanogenMod CM11 nightlies for Sprint’s Galaxy S5. So if you are on Sprint’s network with a Galaxy S5 and have been patiently waiting for CyanognMod for your device, like most Galaxy S5 owners have, then tonight is your night.

Before we move any further ahead lets take a minute to talk about what CyanogenMod and this “nightlies” thing is, for people who aren’t sure or have never messed with it. CyanogenMod is an open source custom firmware that is compatible with over 80 Android devices. That includes smartphones, tablets, and computers. It is very close to “stock Android” that you see running on Nexus devices in appearance but can be very different in functionality. What we mean by this is exactly what draws people to CyanogenMod, it’s extra features and options. CyanogenMod takes Android’s customization to the next level with even more customization than stock Android offers as well as features that allow for super-fine and specific control over your device.

These things have made CyanogenMod the most widely used custom Android firmware on the market with millions and millions of users. CyanogenMod actually became so popular recently that it became an actual company that created it’s own smartphone, the OnePlus One. This has actually been a fairly successful smartphone that has been able to draw people away from their typical Samsung or LG smartphone.

If this sounds like a firmware you want to be running on your Galaxy S5 and you happen to have Sprint then wait until tonight and check-in on CyanogenMod’s website or Google+ page. Something we would like you to take note of is the fact that CyanogenMod has said that due to the device gaining support so close to the impending release of M10 it will not receive updates beyond the development cycle for the time being.
