two new humorous video commercials for the Galaxy Note 4

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Video Commercial Humour Chat Wars Feature 190 140
Samsung continues to release video commercials for the Galaxy Note 4 in a hope to make it the best-seller this holiday shopping season. In the previous videos, it focussed on the S Pen features, its 5.7-inch QHD Super AMOLED screen, and its 16-megapixel camera with optical image stabilisation. The two latest video commercials under the ‘Do You Note?’ campaign, which have twist of humour in them, promote the S Pen which can be used for handwriting and drawing as well as its Scrapbook and photo cropping/sharing functionalities. The Galaxy Note 4 was announced during Samsung’s pre-IFA 2014 Unpacked 2014 Episode 2 event and is already available in all the major markets throughout the world. Samsung is hoping to make the Galaxy Note 4 a touch competitor to the first phablet offering from Apple, the iPhone 6 Plus, which comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p display.

Samsung releases first TV commercial for the Gear S

gear-s-3-feature
The Gear S, Samsung’s six wearable device for the wrist, has been going up for sale in various markets in recent weeks, and Samsung is naturally looking at ways to make people actually buy its feature-packed smartwatch. To this end, the Korean manufacturer has released the first commercial for the Gear. Unlike the creepy ads Samsung released for the original Galaxy Gear last year, the Gear S commercial doesn’t waste any time and simply lets viewers know what it’s capable of. “It’s a compass.” “It’s an extra pair of hands.” “It’s not a watch.” are basically all you will hear, as the ad goes about showing how the Gear S offers directions, lets you make phone calls and send messages without a phone, and so on.
The Gear S was made available for purchase in South Korea last week, where it sold 10,000 units on the first day of launch, and in the US as well. The selling point of the smartwatch is its curved 2-inch Super AMOLED display, and also its inbuilt SIM card slot and Wi-Fi and GPS chips, which let it work without needing a companion smartphone at all times (a fact the ad reiterates as a guy leaves his phone in his locker and still manages to use his Gear S to send messages while getting a haircut.)

Eco-friendly carbon certifications awarded to Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge

note-edge-feature
The Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge have been awarded with eco-friendly carbon labelling certifications in US, UK, Japan, Korea, and Russia. It means that Samsung’s latest smartphones don’t use any environment hazardous chemical substances such as Halogen, Beryllium, and PVC. They also come with packaging and support documentation made from 100 percent recycled paper. The Galaxy Note 4 received environment friendly certification from UL (Underwriter’s Laboratories from US), Carbon Trust (UK), Ecological Union (‘Vitality Leaf’ – Russian Union), and Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute. The Galaxy Note Edge received Eco-Leak environment labelling from Japanese Industrial Environmental Management Association.
The Galaxy S2 and the Galaxy Note were some of the first smartphones to receive such environment friendly certification by Carbon Trust. The carbon labelling certification system for electronic devices was started in February 2009 to promote a low-carbon environment, which is a system to check greenhouse gas emissions of a particular product in the process of its complete life cycle including its development, production, distribution, usage, and disposal.

SM-Z130H Tizen phone specs emerge on Samsung’s website

The upcoming low-end Tizen phone from Samsung, which is currently known only by its model number SM-Z130H, has been under development for a few months now, and is expected to launch in the Indian market by the end of this month/in December. We’ve already offered exclusive information on the hardware the Z130H will carry, and now, Samsung’s own website is reiterating some of that information while revealing a few extra details. According to the phone’s user agent profile, it will feature a display resolution of 480×800 pixels (likely on a 4-inch display) and will be powered by a 1.2GHz processor.
On the software front, it seems to be running on Tizen 2.3, something we confirmed in our exclusive two months ago. We also revealed that the phone will have dual SIM slots, support for FM radio, and a 3.2-megapixel camera, making it an extremely low-end device, though none of this is mentioned in the user agent profile as expected. But the phone’s listing on Samsung’s website is a good sign the phone is closer to a launch than ever before, though it’s always possible Samsung will find some reason or the other to delay a release.

Samsung Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5 reportedly facing signal strength issues

Galaxy-A5-Midnight-Black-Feature-190-140
It looks like Samsung is having a hard time with their first metal-clad mid-range smartphones. Last week, we reported that Samsung delayed the launch of the Galaxy A3 and the Galaxy A5 due to low production yields while manufacturing metal casings for them. Now, Hi-Tech.Mail.ru has learnt from their review, that these metal devices are facing cellular signal strength issues. When compared to the Galaxy S5, which was receiving a fairly strong cellular signal at -82 dBm, the Galaxy A3 and the Galaxy A5 received relatively weaker signal strength at -92 dBm ad -93 dBm respectively. If the signal drops by another 10 dBm, the devices would face constantly dropping data connection. The reviewer tested this with the same SIM card in all three devices, and at the same location.
A similar issue was faced by Apple when it used a metal frame surrounding the iPhone 4. Apple then improvised their design with the iPhone 4S and the iPhone 5. Even HTC faced similar signal strength issues with its early metal devices. It later started using plastic inserts into the otherwise metal unibody smartphones. Unlike the Galaxy A3 and the Galaxy A5, the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Alpha don’t feature full metal chassis, so they don’t face cellular signal issues. We will test these allegations when we review the Galaxy A3 and the Galaxy A5.
