Samsung Galaxy Ace 4 to go on sale in the UK from October 17

galaxy-ace-4-lte-feature
Samsung has announced that the Galaxy Ace 4 will go on sale in the UK from October 17th, the same day the Galaxy Note 4 will also become available for purchase in the country. The fourth-generation Galaxy Ace (not counting the countless Galaxy Ace knock-offs) will be available from Samsung’s Experience Stores, and from online and local retailers including EE and O2 over the week starting October 17. “Combining world-class viewing technology with super-fast 4G speeds, the Galaxy Ace 4 provides the ultimate entertainment experience whether you’re browsing the web or watching an HD movie,” said Ines van Gennip, Marketing Director, IT & Mobile Division, Samsung UK & Ireland.
Of course, being a mid-range device, the Galaxy Ace 4 doesn’t exactly have world-class viewing technology, but you do get a Super AMOLED display that should offer vivid colors and deep blacks, even if it’s of a measly WVGA (800×480) resolution. Other specs of the device include a quad-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel rear camera, VGA front-facing camera, 8GB of internal storage, a microSD slot, 4G LTE connectivity, and a 1,900mAh battery. It runs on Android 4.4 KitKat, with the usual helpings of Samsung’s TouchWiz UX on top.
Samsung hasn’t revealed pricing information, but all those details should make an appearance over the next few days. The Galaxy Ace 4 will be available in Iris Charcoal and Classic White.

Samsung, SK Telecom develop near real-time mobile broadcast streaming technology

samsung logo 2 190
SK Telecom, the leading South Korean telecom carrier, has announced on Wednesday that they have developed an almost real-time mobile broadcast streaming technology in collaboration with Samsung. They have successfully demonstrated the technology on LTE-A network. The current generation mobile broadcast streaming technology has a lag of at least 15 seconds when compared to cable television or IPTV broadcast technologies. SK Telecom and Samsung have worked together to reduce this lag to just 3 seconds, thus making it easier for mobile users to enjoy real-time television.
SK Telecom and Samsung are aiming to commercialise this new technology by next year and use it in their mobile services. The telecom giant has announced that it will carry out joint R&D operations with Samsung to further reduce the lag and increase efficiency and convenience. They are planning to try and standardise this technology through industry associations such as 3GPP and MPEG.

Samsung seeks arbitration against Microsoft in Hong Kong

samsung logo 2 190
Samsung has initiated an arbitration proceeding against Microsoft in Hong Kong on Tuesday regarding the patent royalty dispute. Samsung has asked the International Court of Arbitration in Hong Kong “to resolve a dispute concerning the calculation of success credits.” Microsoft, on the other hand, believes that the appropriate venue to interpret business collaboration agreement is New York. This arbitration against Microsoft came just days after they filed an amendment complaint in its New York lawsuit asking the judge to rule that Microsoft didn’t violate the terms of agreement of a business collaboration with Samsung. This step from Samsung is being seen as a counter offensive which might complicate the lawsuit case filed in New York.
Back in August, Microsoft had filed a federal lawsuit against Samsung in New York stating that they were refusing to pay the patent royalty after they announced the acquisition of Nokia. Microsoft recently revealed that Samsung paid them $1 billion as patent royalty but failed to pay $6.9 million in interest. Microsoft has successfully argued that Android operating system uses some of its technologies so most of the device vendors, including Samsung, who use Android will have to pay patent fees to Microsoft.
