Samsung launches Galaxy Core Max with 4.8″ qHD Super AMOLED display in China

core-max-feature
Samsung might have finally started showing some restraint when it comes to bloating its software, but the company is yet to apply the same restraint to their habit of launching new phones every other day. Samsung has launched a new budget smartphone in China, called the Galaxy Core Max. The Core Max carries model number SM-G5108Q – Samsung hasn’t mentioned the name of the processor that powers it (only that it’s a 1.2GHz quad-core unit), but as we saw in a leaked benchmark for the SM-G510, the phone could be powered by the Snapdragon 410, which is a 64-bit processor that is also expected to be in theupcoming Galaxy A3.
The Galaxy Core Max runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat, so it’s not like it can use the 64-bit processor to its full potential, but it would still be interesting to see what chip is inside the device. As for the other specs, those include a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display of qHD (540×960) resolution, 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera, 8GB of built-in storage and a microSD slot, dual SIM slots, and a 2,200mAh battery. The phone’s design is quite similar to other Samsung phones, though the loudspeaker grille on the back is a bit different than what we’ve seen before, and, dare we say, more attractive than the usual speaker grille.
The phone also has a 5-megapixel front-facing camera – that and other specs of the device make it quite similar to the Galaxy A3, though these aren’t the same phones since the Galaxy A series comes with model numbers starting with SM-A***. There are no details on the pricing and availability of the Galaxy Core Max, but you can expect it to be launched in markets outside China in the near future.

nook-10.1-feature
Following the launch of the customized Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 earlier this year, Samsung and Barnes and Noble have once again teamed up to release yet another tablet, this time the 10.1-inch variant of the Galaxy Tab 4. The Galaxy Tab 4 Nook 10.1, available from Barnes & Noble’s website and its retail stores, comes with free content worth $200, just like the first Galaxy Tab 4 Nook, with the content including TV shows, eBooks, and subscriptions to select magazines. The tablet is priced at $299 after a $50 rebate, which is quite high for what is basically a bump in screen size over the previous Tab 4 Nook.
In terms of hardware, the Galaxy Tab 4 Nook 10.1 features a 10.1-inch 1280×800 display, a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1.5GB of RAM, a 3-megapixel rear camera, 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, and 16GB of storage that is expandable by a further 64GB thanks to the inbuilt microSD slot. The battery life is slated at 10 hours of video usage, and you can read our review of the non-Nook tablet here.

Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S5 LTE get price drops in India

blue-galaxy-s5
Right before the Diwali festive season, Samsung has officially reduced the price of the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy S5 LTE in India. The Galaxy S5 is now available for INR 37,500 while its LTE variant is available for INR 40,300 from the Samsung India eStore. These devices were originally launched with a price tag of INR 51,500 and INR 53,500 respectively but they were being sold for much lower prices on various online stores in India, though Samsung had denied slashing their prices officially. The Galaxy Note 4 was launched in the country recently for INR 58,300 and is running low on stocks, but is being sold at a lower price by most retailers, a trend that has become commonplace with Samsung’s flagships in the country.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus with Snapdragon 805 goes online on the company’s website

s5-mini-white-diagonal-1-feature
Earlier this year, Samsung launched the Galaxy S5 4G+ in Singapore, with the device a variant of the original Galaxy S5 but sporting the faster Snapdragon 805 processor. It looks like Samsung is now getting ready to launch this variant in more countries, as its product page has gone online on the company’s website as the Galaxy S5 Plus, at least in the Netherlands. The Galaxy S5 Plusfeatures the exact same hardware as the Galaxy S5, but as noted above, it is powered by a Snapdragon 805 processor. However, it’s clocked only at 2.5GHz and not 2.7GHz (unlike the one on the Galaxy Note 4), though it should still offer considerably better performance than the Snapdragon 801-powered S5.
For those who need a refresher, the Galaxy S5 hardware includes a 5.1-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display, 2GB of RAM, a 16-megapixel rear camera, fingerprint and heart rate sensors, 16GB of expandable internal storage, a 2,800 mAh battery, and a dust and water-resistant shell. Thanks to the Snapdragon 805 CPU, the Galaxy S5 Plus should also support LTE speeds of up to 225 Mbps. The S5 Plus comes in the same blue, white, black and gold colors, though price and release details are something that remain elusive for now.
