7 Million Dropbox Accounts Compromised, Change Your Password

This year seems to be a very successful one for hackers with compromise data, and as such a very unfortunate year for users. Recent stories regarding the iCloud and Snapchat attacks only reiterate how we should frequently check and change our passwords and, if possible, enable two factor authentication. Folks on Reddit discovered a massive leak of Dropbox user names and passwords that could potentially be quite harmful to XDA and the Android community as a whole.

Reddit users claim that 7 million accounts have been compromised. But according to their official statement, this was a result of unrelated third party services, rather than a direct hack on Dropbox servers. That said, there is a somewhat large chance that your account may have been compromised, so we strongly recommend changing your associated email address and password, as well as enabling two factor authentication to hamper attempted data breaches in the future.

Dropbox’s leak is similar to the previous Snapchat breach. In a public statement made by Dropbox and its hosting company, some third party services are to be blamed.

Dropbox has not been hacked. These usernames and passwords were unfortunately stolen from other services and used in attempts to log in to Dropbox accounts. We’d previously detected these attacks and the vast majority of the passwords posted have been expired for some time now. All other remaining passwords have been expired as well.

Dropbox stated that its engineers performed password resets on all accounts with suspicious activity a few months back. You can read about properly securing your Dropbox account by heading to their official website.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 officially launched in India

Galaxy-Note-4-Feature-190-140
Samsung officially launched the Galaxy Note 4 in India today, at an event in the country’s capital of New Delhi. The phablet has been priced at a whopping Rs. 58,300 (approx. $950), though the device should actually be available for less since that’s the maximum retail price. Breaking its usual tradition, Samsung has launched the Snapdragon-powered variant of the Galaxy Note 4 in India instead of the Exynos model. This will likely make prospective consumers in the country happy, as Samsung’s use of Exynos CPUs for its flagships in India has been a point of contention for many, especially since the company often demos the Snapdragon variant of the device in stores while selling the Exynos variant.
Samsung has also tied up with carrier Vodafone to offer 2GB of free 3G data for two months to users that aren’t already using its data plans, though those that are will still get 1GB of data. As revealed earlier, the Galaxy Note 4 will go up for sale in local stores and at online retailers from October 17th. Samsung is already taking pre-orders, though as we’ve often pointed out, the company doesn’t offer a refund of the pre-order amount if you cancel your order, so be sure you really want the phone before putting down your money for one.
The Galaxy Note 4 features a 5.7-inch Quad HD (2560×1440) Super AMOLED display, 2.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor and Adreno 420 GPU, 3GB of RAM, a 16-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization, a 3.7-megapixel front-facing camera, 32/64GB of expandable internal storage, a 3,220 mAh battery, and Android 4.4.4 KitKat. It also comes with the traditional S Pen stylus, and is the first Galaxy Note smartphone to feature a metallic body.
Don’t forget to check out our hands-on of the Galaxy Note 4, and let us know if you intend to pick one up this week.

T-Mobile shipping Galaxy Note 4 orders ahead of October 17 launch

note-4-early-feature
The Galaxy Note 4 is set to go on sale in the US (and many other countries) on October 17, but T-Mobile customers who pre-ordered Samsung’s new phablet seem to be getting it ahead of schedule. Several T-Mobile users have revealed that the carrier has already delivered their Galaxy Note 4 to their doorstep; it’s unclear if this is a fluke, though it’s likely Samsung won’t mind too much given we’re less than three days away from the official day of the Note 4′s release. It also remains to be seen if other carriers will be jumping the gun and making premature deliveries to those who have pre-ordered what is the best iteration of Samsung’s popular Galaxy Note lineup.
Have any of you who pre-ordered the Galaxy Note 4 received the device already? Let us know in the comments!
Samsung-Facebook-Feature-190-140
Facebook’s first phone, the HTC First may have failed but its failure isn’t stopping them in planning its successor. Apparently, Facebook is strengthening its partnership with Samsung and the next Facebook phone might be on the cards. According to the Korean media, Mark Zuckerberg met with Samsung’s Vice Chairman, Lee Jay-Yong at Samsung’s headquarters in Korea. The latest meeting was about “futuristic business projects” and was seen as “win-win” by both the companies. This is the third instance this year when officials from Samsung and Facebook have met. Apparently, Facebook is searching for a trustable hardware partner to make their next phone a reality.
If you remember, the Gear VR was developed in collaboration with Oculus, which is now owned by Facebook. There is a fair chance that this collaboration might not be about a Facebook phone, but other things such as Facebook applications and services being pre-installed on Samsung products, though the Korean media thinks otherwise. Would you be interested in buying a Facebook phone from Samsung?
